BayFest Set to Rock Downtown Mobile, AlabamaLocal Acts Join International Stars for Festival's 15th Anniversary
More than 200,000 people are expected to turn out for the 15th anniversary of BayFest, which turns downtown Mobile, Alabama into a three day music festival.
Since its debut in 1995, when 50,000 punters turned out to check out the new festival, BayFest has become a fixture on music lovers’ calendars throughout Alabama and beyond. It’s been repeatedly named one of the Southeast Tourism Society’s Top 20 Events and has even beaten Mardi Gras as Mobile’s Best Annual Event in Mobile Bay Monthly. With more than 125 acts performing on nine stages over three days and nights, organisers are quick to point out that BayFest gives festival goers more bang for their buck than individual concerts, which can often cost considerably more than the $35 weekend pass to BayFest. Over the years the likes of B.B King, The Beach Boys, Nelly, Kid Rock, Keith Urban, Hootie & The Blowfish, and many more have performed at the festival, which prides itself on catering to a wide range of musical tastes. Wide Range of Artists Confirmed to Perform at BayFest 2009Amongst the artists confirmed to appear at 2009 BayFest are Akon, 3 Doors Down, Alan Jackson, Avan, Billy Currington, Gary Allan, Ne-Yo, T-Pain, Train, Wet Willie, and the legendary Steve Miller Band. As well as giving fans the chance to see national and regional bands they know and love, BayFest is an opportunity for unknown bands to take to the stage in a major festival. Any band can apply to play The Launching Pad stage, regardless of whether they are a local act. This gives the special local programming committee a large pile of demo tapes to listen to over their three-night selection process. While BayFest has plenty to satisfy fans of country, classic rock, alternative, jazz, R&B, Cajun, reggae, electronica, folk, gospel and other musical styles, organizers encourage festival goers to step out of their musical comfort zones and check out a band they’ve never seen before. As they put it, “BayFest is all about exposing festival patrons to new kinds of music.” The festival also features a family stage and children’s activity area to make sure everyone in the family has a weekend to remember.
